The Kingsmob

The misadventures of a neurotic with occasional delusions of grandeur.

Sometimes I Can Be Prophetic

,

I myself am often amazed at the things that come out of my mouth...

The Kingsmob on Aging
Today whilst wasting some time chatting with co-workers we lighted on he subject of aging. A co-worker mentioned that his father has to get hearing aids and was upset by the idea. A second co-worker mentioned that his grandfather had hearing aids but would stealthily turn them down when ever his grandmother started bitching at him.

During the conversation, I made two comments that are worth preserving here:

"Nothing says 'impending mortality' like new hearing aids."
And
If you live that long you have earned the right to use your hearing aids to squelch life."

Learn Your Frackin' Buzzwords, Dipshit!
OK, so a lot of people think I am way too strict when it comes to such things but I hate it when people use slang terms or buzzwords incorrectly. If you don't know how to use a word or phrase, don't use it. Stick to what you know and you will seem like much less of a slack-jawed moron.

For example, I got an e-mail from a co-worker today complaining about some incorrect data in the application I designed. The email started with "FYI". The author then went on to request that I correct the error and went so far as to tell me how to correct the issue.

I have no problem with people pointing out errors nor do I take issue with suggestions on how to fix issues -- in fact, I encourage them. What pisses me off is the use of FYI. If you are telling me to fix a problem and what to do to fix it it isn't for my information, you actually want me to do something with the information. FYI means that you want me to know something but no action is required! How can it be FYI if you want me to do something?!?

God, it is enough to make you want to gnaw one's own legs off.
