Mister Bones; Math is useful

, , , ...

One:
Mister Bones is an advanced cuddler.

The old song and dance: I would wake up in the middle of a nap, and decide I would be more comfortable if I could breathe properly. It's easier to breathe when there isn't a dog half on top of your ribcage, so I would scoot a couple of inches over. Mister Bones would wake up about ten seconds later, and scoot three inches over farther than I did, and end up half on top of my rib cage again. This would go on until there was not enough room on the bed for me to properly lay down, and so I would bribe him with a milk bone to get up and move over back to his side of the bed. Then it would all start over again.

The new song and dance: He doesn't wait ten seconds to wake up anymore. Sometimes he doesn't even wake up. He just scoots over at the same time I do, so that even while I am in the process of scooting, there is a dog half on top of my ribcage.

Mister Bones is more than an advanced cuddler; he is a barnacle. The photo attached to this post is not staged - he grabbed my arm with his paws, pulled it under his head, and commenced napping.

Two:
Would you like to know a way to find out the diameter of a pipe that is easier than trying to remove melted-on insulation from a twelve length inch of the pipe?

Of course you would.

You can remove the melted-on insulation from half an inch of the pipe, wrap a twist tie around the pipe, measure the length of the twist tie, and then divide that by π.

If there is a sprinkler involved, and the pipe happens to be attached to a faucet that no longer turns off, this will also prevent you from getting any more wet than is absolutely necessary. Ha.

Can't sleep

The local cops aren't down with the whole keeping within a small area while investigating thing. So, they're looking into something a block or two over, and this apparently requires flashing lights in front of my house. And also a circling, flashing, helicopter. The helicopter is the reason I'm not drifting peacefully off to sleep right now - the circular pattern of the noise level is driving me sort of nuts.

I've decided taking math might be more fun than taking random unconnected electives to meet my course minimum. In view of that, I started reviewing single variable calculus today. I know it and I'm good at it, but I haven't done any real math for about a year and a half, so I am definitely rusty. Picking it back up with multivariable calculus in the fall would be something fun to look forward to, so hopefully I will be able to stick with the schedule I've set for myself.

Today Mister Bones and I went on an expedition to find abandoned red cricket balls. Unfortunately, the expedition was resoundingly unsuccessful. I later found out that our lack of success was probably because I was mistaken about when the cricket league meets. They play Sunday mornings, not Saturday mornings. We'll try again tomorrow.

Okay, now there are multiple sirens and at least one car alarm going off. This is getting irritating. It is especially irritating in light of the fact that if I want breakfast tomorrow, I have to be up for seven fifteen mass. Seven fifteen in the morning, not at night. I have four hours, and it looks like I probably won't sleep until after mass and after breakfast at whatever Taqueria we're going to.

I miss math

No finals, just papers. All of which are due very soon. My schedule for next year is heinous. Not because of the classes, but because of the times. I might use this as an excuse to take multi variable calc. Just for fun.

Other bad news - the crossword converse are so backordered that they canceled my order. And then sent me five notices, just to rub it in. Bah.
