Project F5

When it comes to helping Web developers adhere to open standards so that their sites will work properly in Opera, our storied (Storey-ed?) Open the Web team is always up to the challenge.
That said, there are other website issues we could use your help with. In particular, there are a lot of sites out there that have old, outdated, or simply incorrect information about Opera. For example, some sites still claim that Opera contains built-in advertising (unless users pay a license fee). That stopped being the case just over two years ago! There are other misconceptions as well, such as people confusing Opera Mini with Opera Mobile.
As an ongoing project, let's work together to correct websites that have incorrect information about Opera. Obviously, we don't have to fix every old news article talking about previous versions of Opera, but general information sites without a specific publication date should be corrected to reflect the latest info. In general, a polite letter to the relevant Webmaster should be sufficient.
When you've contacted a site, please post the URL here (so that others won't contact the same site over and over again) and describe what you asked them to fix. We'll send an Opera goodie-bag to the person who contacts the most sites in two weeks (deadline: Oct. 10th), and if you find/contact at least 5 sites with incorrect/outdated information about Opera, we'll enter you into a random drawing to win one other goodie-bag.
Good luck!
(via Choose Opera)

I'm surprised at large companies that refuse to make changes to accomodate Opera. Who would really say no to a 3-5% increase in customers? Fixing websites is easy and it doesn't really cost anything. NOT fixing them is a sign of fundamental misunderstanding or an IT/web department that's too stubborn for its own good.

Ah, I see they've added a 'last updated for Opera x.x', at least. But seriously, a lot of the offical opera.com site is out of date. Take this page, for example: Why Opera?. Those features are old. A pop-up killer, integrated search? Please.

NFGman, I take it you're not a web developer. Fixing websites takes time, and in a business setting, that means money, whether it's billable hours, or just time that the developer could have been working on something else. I once spent several hours trying to figure out why a design worked perfectly in Opera, Firefox and Safari, but broke horribly in IE6... and broke horribly in a different way in IE7.
To make matters worse, a lot of the problem sites out there are built for IE6, with one set of hacks for Firefox and set layer of hacks for IE7. As far as they're concerned, supporting Opera and Safari means adding 2 more sets of hacks.
So you have to convince them that it's worth either adding more sets of hard-to-maintain hacks, or throwing it all out and redesigning the site from scratch with a standards-based approach. And to do that, you need to convince them that they really will get more business, and that it will be enough to offset the cost of the redesign.

anyway, the biggest problem i know of about this topic is that half the people i know who've heard of Opera think you still have to pay for it.

The buttons beside the Back and Foward are pointless for most users and it HUGELY confuses people. The dialog at the start is GREAT! But should not be deafult.
Opera first before it does this prject, is perfect the User Interface for n00bs. Thats why FF is taking off so well! Its simple and very like IE in interface.
Although in everyway Opera is supiourer, but it scares people off.
Btw hope you guys are getting prepared for the best ever Opera theme of all time!!!
